Dr. Jose Portela’s passion for taking care of people began long before his chiropractic career. In 2007, Dr. Portela graduated from Montverde Academy where he and his wife Daniella both attended school and started their lives together. Dr. Portela’s medical career began at Delaware State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Professional Medicine and played Division I baseball all four years of his collegiate trek. Soon after, Dr. Portela began his postgraduate studies at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida. Early in his career at chiropractic school he became extremely involved with an upper cervical chiropractic technique called NUCCA. Amazed by the science, philosophy, art, and ability to take care of many people through this technique, Dr. Portela became President of the Palmer Florida Upper Cervical Club, with the goal of being able to teach many other devoted soon-to-be chiropractors.
In 2014, Dr. Portela graduated Palmer College and began his practice with the team at Friends and Family Spinal Care under the guidance of Dr. Justin Brown. Here he learned his love for providing patients with a unique, principled and outstanding experience when they come into the practice. In 2015, the Coral Springs Forum awarded him Best Holistic Doctor serving Coral Springs, Margate and Parkland.
In late 2015, Dr. Portela moved with Daniella and their giant labradoodle Polo back to their roots in Clermont with the mission of providing advanced, quality care to the communities of Central Florida. He is currently the only NUCCA doctor in the Central Florida area. As a member of the NUCCA organization and the Florida Chiropractic Association he is able to live out his passion for chiropractic with the world through health seminars and engaging health talks within the local community. His goal is to end suffering and enhance quality of life. Dr. Portela loves to cherish life with family and enjoys surfing and fishing.
