Meet Dr. Jose Portela

Dr. Jose Portela is one of 22 Board Certified NUCCA specialists world-wide. As founder of Balanced Spine Center, he practices in Clermont, Florida and is the only Upper Cervical specialist in the state. His career in the medical field became his vocation early in life. He grew up in a household full of medical doctors. As a Division I baseball player at Delaware State University studying pre-professional medicine, spinal hygiene was built into his lifestyle and made a priority. As an athlete, he has always believed in the benefits of chiropractic care.
In 2014, he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, Florida with awards in leadership and radiology. Dr. Jose Portela is currently the only Board Certified NUCCA Specialist in the state of Florida.
Discovering a Transformative Technique
While earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree, he learned about NUCCA in a lecture presented by a physician. The upper cervical niche focuses on targeting the root cause of a condition. Since then, Dr. Portela made this his primary technique. He became the President of the Upper Cervical Club for Palmer and continues to educate the community through seminars and lectures. He is pleased to be back, having attended Montverde Academy for high school, providing a high level of care to the residents of Lake County. His practice was named “Best of Lake County” in 2017 and 2018 voted on by the public.
Dr. Portela and his wife are parents to their daughter and labradoodle. Growing up in Puerto Rico, his natural love for the outdoors especially near the water, is where they spend most of their free time. Dr. Portela also enjoys cycling locally and playing softball!
